Transparency and Secrecy Within the Catholic Church

One of the challenges of the Church is to maintain openness and confidentiality and at the same time; to combat cover-ups and protect the presumption of innocence. This book examines how to make this challenge possible. The study does not treat sexual abuse in the Church as the main subject, but focuses on the reforms made by Pope Francis regarding canon criminal law. Finally, it proposes accountability and the metaphor of translucency, instead of “absolute transparency,” as an organic model more appropriate to the nature, purposes, and mission of the Church.
